Why is taxing the people who got filthy rich over the last eight years not in consideration for this bailout? Because the Congress doesn't represent the middle class anymore. It only represents the filthy rich.
The last two weeks have been nothing but THEATRE. Of course, the original proposal was a joke. The new one is a joke with a lot of legalistic gobbledegook hiding the joke. Pelosi and Reid have sold out the middle class, and Obama has allowed them to get away with this TOOTHLESS bill that rips us off.
I wrote the following to our Congress-stooge, but I doubt it will stop this stinking steamroller.
Dear Congressperson X
Since the Congress intends to vote on the bailout tomorrow, less than 24 hours after a complex draft of it has been placed in the public domain, we have no choice but to be blunt. How dare the Congress try to set economic policy for the next 20 years in an overnight bum's rush!
The latest bailout bill is still unacceptable. It is a still an insult to give the same people who got us into this mess the power to decide how to fix it. The "oversight" boards are a joke.To stop Secretary Paulsen from doing as he pleases would require the firing of three officials; and the bailout bill is written in such a way as to prevent any future president from having the legal grounds to fire them. This bill is nothing more than economic Shock Doctrine - massive looting of the middle class to benefit Wall Street crooks.
This bill does not remedy the excesses or penalize the criminality that led to the problem. It just kicks the can down the road past the election, without blaming anyone - at an obscene cost to the ordinary taxpayer. Why has no consideration been given to Senator Sanders' plan to pay for the bailout by raising taxes on the rich and taxing stock transactions?
So, once again, no. We will not have our tax dollars handed to this pack of thieves, because giving away this money means we will never again in our lifetimes see any government programs for the middle class. This bailout is the death knell for social spending in this country.
Therefore, we will not vote for anyone who votes for this wretched excuse for oversight. That includes you. That includes Barack Obama. We are lifelong Democrats. We have never voted for a Republican. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party has become indistinguishable from the Republican Party. In fact, with this bill, the Democratic Party will have tied itself closer to George W. Bush than the rank and file of the Republican Party. How can you be so short-sighted?
We need a BETTER bailout bill. Something with real teeth, instead of this weasel-worded humbug that will leave the foxes in charge of the hen house. We are outraged that the Congress is ONCE AGAIN giving away its Constitutional powers to the Executive Branch, just like with the Patriot Act. Do you people never learn?
Your constituents,
