Wow. Just wow. The hits just keep on coming with McCain and his sleazy ads. McCain has lost any sense of personal decency he might have once had.
McCain's new ad lifts an excerpt of an Obama speech to falsely claim that Obama believes the fundamentals of our economy are strong.
In this ad McCain takes an Obama comment about the fundamentals of economic growth - which when you read in context is exactly the opposite of what McCain is using it for - and then, well, see for yourself. I’m disgusted by it.
The comment used in the ad was an example of Obama making the point that he believes the country must repair the economy's long-term fundamentals. He says we need a plan to change unemployment benefits and then, as if to say "next on the list," is the long-term fundamentals that will make the economy grow. Obama is saying we need a plan to address the fundamentals. McCain cherry-picks the words and says Obama agrees that the fundamentals of the economy are strong.
Here is the actual FULL quote from Obama:
"[We need] a plan that would extend expiring unemployment benefits. For those Americans who have lost their jobs and have been working hard to find a new one, but haven't found one yet. That's part of the change we need. And then after this immediate problem, we've got the long-term fundamentals that will really make sure this economy grows. Change means tax code that doesn't reward the lobbyists who wrote it, but the American workers and small businesses that deserve it. As President I am going to eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-ups."
By the way, this is exactly the same thing McCain did before with cherry-picking the words "tiny" and "not a serious threat" about Iran. Factcheck.org caught him on that one ( http://www.factcheck.org/... ), and I can’t wait for them to catch this one. Maybe Obama should run an ad saying "here he goes again..."
Here's an idea for McCain's next ad. Find a clip of Obama saying "I saw a false email that said I am a secret Muslim." Then, make an ad that shows Obama saying "I am a secret Muslim." Follow it up with a voiceover from an ominous-sounding announcer: "Is Obama a secret muslim?" Close with: "I'm John McCain, and yes, I approve even this message."
UPDATE:
I didn't realize that Jake Tapper had blogged about this earlier today, but in the context of the RNC using this out-of-context excerpt:

Also, TPM Election Central clarifies further that Obama was referring to the fundamentals of his economic plan. I didn't catch that:
