I was watching the coverage of the latest 'Fitzmass present', the fact that Libby's lawyers are now vowing to call Rove and Ari Flieser to the stand, when it hit me. Our Democracy may be saved by the Fitgeralds, Joe Wilsons, and et al....
public servants all. It's not just that the elites who pull the strings behind the scenes don't want to pay taxes. They hate 'big government' because it is a check on thier power. We are in much better shape politically now, primerially, because of the actions of dedicated public sevants like Fitzgerald who believes in democracy, and will fight for it.
Futhermore.

More over the jump.
Futhermore, the Agencies themselves supply many opponents. I always thought that Wilson was sent by the CIA to gather ammo against Bush. If I am not mistaken, Wilson's wife was very opposed to the Iraq policy. I view the bueracies as almost a 4th branch of government. This is mainly due to self-interest, the politicos who come and go have a tendency to try and stick the agencies with the blaim for thier blunders if the truth comes out. Ie... "we had bad intelligence". One day Bush will be gone but the CIA will still be around, and they will be damned if they will fall on thier swords for Bush. It's about survival and reputation. So, when a pres starts messing with them the wistleblowers come out.
Therefore the elites who own the Repugs lock, stock, and barrel, and the Dems lock and maybe stock, have a powerful reason to eliminate both public servants and folks protecting thier turf.
They attack two-fold, by trying to convince people that big government is the enemy, and by placing cronies in key decision making positions - think of thier fox in the henhouse appointment strategy.
It's not just about money, it's also about power. They don't want folks speaking the truth or uncovering the truth. Why do 47% of Americans strongly disaprove of Bush now? Because they are suddenly seeing the same guy we see saw along time ago, and some of us more recently. Why? Because they are finally finding out things that soured us, chiefly due to the push-back from the CIA et al, and public servants like Fitzgerald.
Thank god that the assualt on 'big government' has not been entirely successful yet, or we would not have a snowball chance right now.
