Welcome to the FIRST EVER open thread for Show Tune Tuesdays!
In honor of the wonderful sisters of show tunes in St. Louis, meeting at the Motherhouse Convent a/k/a the Loading Zone in St. Louis' Central West End, I’m hereby calling to order all lovers of showtunes. Who doesn’t love the Show Tunes Tuesday Tradition?
From the earnest blog "blasphemousandoffensive"
"It is almost something that one must truly witness first hand to appreciate, but there is nothing more amusing - nor ghastly - than seeing a bar full of grown men singing and dancing in time to "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid, or literally pirouetting to "Oklahoma."
Me helpmate and me used to head over there around 10:30 of a Tuesday night, and nobody thought twice about the fact that we was heterosexual partners ‘n all.
So tonight, on the eve of the eve of the Vice Presidential debate, I’m opening the floor to any and all show tunes lovers. This thread is open and waiting for your input. As a start, I’d like to give props to Larry Gelbart, who identified himself in his own diary today http://www.dailykos.com/...
I frankly didn’t believe it was him, but when the diarist correctly answered an obscure show tunes trivia question, based on a Broadway musical written by Larry Gelbart, I had to take him at his word.
So to take everyone's minds off of the economy for a few minutes, here are two videos to get this party started: the first is from Electric Six and their sizzling rendition of "Gay Bar".
The second is in honor of Mr. Gelbart himself, from A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum (written by Larry Gelbart, Bert Shevelove and Stephen Sondheim) – It’s a long clip but you don’t have to watch the whole thing.
If this thread offends you, then Show Tunes Tuesdays is not for you!
Thanks for taking some time out of your busy schedules to play along. Now, the bar is open, who will join me for a mojito or a Bud Lite?
