No, not that Freep. This is the Detroit Free Press (commonly referred to as "The Freep" by us Michiganders.)
Rochelle Riley of the Freep had a terrific editorial yesterday where she asks Governor Palin to step aside before she "further hurts women". Excerpts to follow...
Here's part of Riley's comments:
She was asked a question Saturday about sending troops into Pakistan. Instead of following the strategy that McCain explained during Friday's debate about not expressing such sentiments aloud, she said: "If that’s what we have to do to stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should."
Her subsequent reaction makes four things clear:
- She doesn't understand politics.
- She doesn't understand her running mate (or didn't watch the debate).
- That voter, the one who asked the question, DID get her.
- She should drop out of the race (No explanation would be needed) and stop making women look bad.
Her whining about answering a question she wasn't prepared for makes it clear she's not ready for prime time. But her month-long Bumble Across America Tour, during which she has displayed an increasingly clearer level of ignorance about the world and politics, shows she's not ready to represent women.
Asking pointed questions of candidates who may become the leaders who run the country not only is allowed, but necessary and prudent. But the more we learn about Palin, the more frightening she becomes. The more she learns about the job and domestic and foreign affairs, the more frightened she should become...
Palin is setting the gender back by decades...
This election comes at a time when our country is globally hated and financially imploding. What person in their right mind still thinks that this is politics as usual?
Sarah Palin, go home.
Riley's column has drawn nearly 1,800 comments as of this morning. As is typical of the Freep comments sections, it is full of right-wing vitriol. However, there is some humor to be found in there, if you're willing to slog your way through the comments. There's one in particular that gave me a chuckle.
To start with, the "genius" who typed it calls themselves "ItsAPrivledge". I do so love when someone misspells things in their own screen name.
But that was just a foreshadowing of the "brilliance" to come. To whit:
ItsAPrivledge wrote:
Rochelle - you are the one that needs to get out of the business. While I understand that yours is an opinion column, please at least try not be to bias.
Yes, let's not be "bias". Not when writing an opinion piece. That would be completely inappropriate for an editorial. You should never express an "opinion" in an "opinion column". Right. Got it. Note to self...
The rest of the comment has at least another half-dozen misspellings and grammatical laugh-out-louds but I'll spare you. However, I am gonna give ole ItsAPrivledge a little advice here: If you REALLY want to defend your position and your candidate, stop writing things in public forums.
Because, dude, you look like an idiot.
I'm just sayin'...
