I haven’t seen this diaried, so I’ll share the latest pollconducted by the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University and KAET Eight. The poll shows that McCain remains ahead, but his lead is down 3 points since August 19th. The best news is that Obama is up 8 points in that same time period, right here in Senator McCain’s several back yards.
TEMPE, Ariz. ––Republican John McCain maintains a 7-percent lead (45 percent to 38 percent) over Democrat Barack Obama in Arizona, according to a new Cronkite/Eight Poll conducted Sept. 25-28. .......Last month, the poll found that McCain led by 10 percent with 40 percent of the vote, while Obama drew 30 percent...
"As always, who turns out to vote will determine who wins Arizona. The election in Arizona may be decided by whether young people and Hispanics turn out to vote and who the independent voters, who are a growing and important segment of the electorate, decide to support. "
Marlene Philips, writing in the Huffington Post, also talks about the excitement that is brewing here in Arizona for Obama.
Obama offices across the state report the same story: volunteer sign-up sheets full. Every phone in every office in use. Overflow crowds for every event. Home parties, grassroots fundraisers, concerts, auctions, all raising money at an unprecedented rate with an unmatched level of enthusiasm.
But volunteers turning out in record numbers for this Democratic candidate for president isn't news anymore, is it?
It is in this state. Because this is Arizona, what Kelly Paisley, Arizona Director for Obama for America called, "the home of at least one of John McCain's backyards."
So even previously red Arizona is in play now. I'm excited!
