The behavior of John McCain in front of the DES MOINES REGISTER editorial board today bordered on ridiculous. No, wait. It absolutely, positively WAS ridiculous.
For the very last time, Mr. McSame, and I want you to understand this is coming from a veteran naval officer who spent eleven years serving my country, ENOUGH OF THIS NONSENSE ABOUT YOUR PUTTING COUNTRY FIRST.
We get it: you never, never lie. You always tell the truth one hundred percent of the time, and anyone [like the REGISTER's editorial board] who has the audacity to question your honesty, has no clue about your integrity.
You are confusing two concepts here, John. The fact that you wore a military uniform, was accidentally shot down and then kept captive in an hellish environment for almost six years, and then lived to talk about it, DOES NOT OF AND BY ITSELF make you a man of integrity.
At the very least, and this is off topic, you exhibited exceptional impulsive behavior and extremely poor judgment in the selection of your running mate from Alaska.
I might add that at least your choice was very much in keeping with the typical brown shoe [naval aviator] persona of going for the cute babe. That much I get.
But the patriotic parading thing is growing old. We have an economy on the brink of collapse, a health system in tatters, a war we cannot afford and no one in their right mind wants, and basically a world that at the very least distrusts the American government, and at the most wants to do us harm.
Veterans get what you are all about. Parading your patriotism around as a substitute for genuine honor and integrity is, of and by itself, extremely dishonorable. And you will discover that a VERY large portion of us aren't buying your nonsense on November 4.
You, sir, are living embodiment of Samuel Johnson's well-worn phrase about patriotism being the last refuge of scoundrels.
It isn't working. Find another slogan or shut your pie hole and go back to one of your sixteen houses with Cindy.
Please.
