A new poll out by Greenberg, Quinlan, Rosner shows Larry Kissell leading Robin Hayes by 11 points - outside the margin of error. Hard as I have tried, I can't get my grubby paws on the cross tabs so all the naysayers...and I can hear the griping now...here at Kos and beyond will take this poll seriously. DCCC released the numbers this morning, but those of us living in-district or at least in the viewing area were aware that Robin Hayes was getting nastier and nastier.
At BlueNC one of our members started a great fundraising drive by giving $11 dollars for Larry. Several others have now joined in. Help us celebrate this great achievement and encourage Larry to keep working hard to win this district.
Give $11 to help Larry Kissell.
Hayes always takes a negative approach. He doesn't know any other way to do it. This year he did try a few television ads trying to sell himself, but his read-the-cue-card style really made him sound phony. Now he has an ad out claiming Larry skirted the law because one time an FEC report was a day late.
DCCC put this up on their blog and sent out a release.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a new Greenberg, Quinlan, Rosner poll today conducted September 28-29 that shows Larry Kissell leading Representative Robin Hayes by 11 points in the race for North Carolina's 8th congressional District. The initial head to head between Democrat Larry Kissell and Republican Robin Hayes is 54% to 43%. The poll surveyed 400 likely voters and has a 4.9% margin of error.
The 8th Congressional District shows a strong Democratic lean, with Barack Obama leading John McCain by 12 points (54%-42%) and Democratic Senate Candidate Kay Hagan leading Elizabeth Dole by 14 points (55%-41%). 8th District voters also believe that Larry Kissell will do a better job on the economy than Robin Hayes and that Kissell is more likely to stand up for North Carolina's workers.
"This poll shows that Larry Kissell is continuing to connect with voters in the district and that North Carolinans know he shares their concerns," said Kyra Jennings, Southern Regional Press Secretary at the DCCC. "While Robin Hayes has stood with President Bush to cast the deciding votes on unfair trade deals such as CAFTA and sent jobs overseas, voters know that Larry Kissell will always stand up for them."
Larry and his team have been working hard. Unfortunately, Larry still lives in a district that has the hardest hit counties when it comes to job losses and economic hardships. He is on the phone and his team works hard to win as many contests and earn as many fundraising opportunities as possible.
Having DCCC support doesn't necessarily bring cash rolling in during a year when so many people are on ballots across the country. There's simply too much competition. Yes, DCCC is doing a great job with the ads they've put together to run on Larry's behalf, but Larry needs the support of the netroots (moral, volunteer and financial) to get the job done.
Please leave a word of encouragement, celebrate a bit with us, contact the campaign to volunteer and/or give $11 to help Larry Kissell retire Robin Hayes in November.
Please, if you can, give $11 to help Larry win.
[Update 1] I requested some more numbers from DCCC. I wanted the informed numbers, but they aren't releasing those. I did get favorables though.
Kissell -- 35-19 (he has a 62% name id)
Hayes -- 44-32 (he has an 82% name id)
[update 2] WAIT! I forgot! Because Larry is part of the Red Alert program at DCCC every grassroots contribution to Kissell through ActBlue will be matched by Members of Congress.
In the Raleigh market it costs $220 to air an ad. If 5 of us give $11 and that's matched by 5 members of Congress, there goes one ad. Only......Larry isn't in the Raleigh market. Most of his district is in a much less expensive media market. (outside of Charlotte) If you think $11 won't make a difference, think again.
