Rasmussen Reports has released a new Nebraska Senate Poll:
Johanns: 52(56)
Kleeb : 38(31)
Here's the key quote:
Kleeb has taken the lead among unaffiliated voters in Nebraska, 43% to 35%. That’s a big shift from July, when Johanns led this group of voters by a 47% to 30% margin.
That's a 25 point swing among independents and shows what we've known on the ground for some time now.
Scott Kleeb is on the move!
Our grassroots supporters are very encouraged by this news.
Here are the key bullet points;
• Johanns led by 25 in July, the new margin is now 14; voters have been moving to Kleeb
• Kleeb has taken the lead among the key demographic of unaffilliated voters 43-35, a 25-point shift to Scott Kleeb from July's poll where Johanns led 47 to 30.
• Mike Johanns has higher unfavorables than Kleeb 34-32
• Johanns "Very Unfavorable" has more than doubled to 15% now from 6% in July.
• Scott Kleeb has 52% favorability in Nebraska per Rasmussen
• The cross tabs show Scott up 53-39 among voters for whom Economic Issues are most important
• Among voters who make over $100,000/year Scott Kleeb leads 56-44
• The demographic that knows Scott Kleeb the least are voters 18-29, 1-in-3 of whom don't know Scott yet.
There is room to grow here. An investment in television, in particular, would move those numbers further given those crosstabs.
These numbers are not surprising to our campaign. We've seen this kind of movement and level of excitement in all three of Nebraska's Congressional Districts. These poll numbers are not good news for former Bush Cabinet Secretary Mike Johanns whose ad campaign has been entirely about capturing independent, unaffilliated voters. Johanns is losing ground with them; Scott Kleeb has moved 25 points with this demographic.
Scott Kleeb is on the move.
That should come as no surprise, as New Nebraska Network pointed out, Scott Kleeb has a strong appeal to independent-minded Nebraska voters. Check out Scott's performance on the local Todd and Tyler Radio Show. (That show is a must listen for anyone who cares about this race. It demonstrates unmistakeably how Scott Kleeb "get's it" when it comes to communicating to critical red state voters.)
