Went to a debate party tonight - watched with 6 other volunteers on a HUGE projection screen. My thoughts on the debate are that Biden won, but that Palin beat the spread. That's mostly because like a gentleman, Joe didn't run up the score on her. Anyway, I have two moments that I'll always remember about this debate:
- When the topic came to what the Vice President actually did, Palin gave her standard sub-standard answer, which in this case was to essentially support Cheney's position. Huge mistake. I yelled out "Go get 'er Joe", on he sure did. The only guy more hated in our government than W is Dick "Fourthbranch" Cheney. A huge, fat pitch, right in Joe's wheelhouse - and Joe connected, not just with the pitch but extremely well with the CNN focus group with his answer. Awesome.
But that's not the best part.
- Palin was asked what she thought her Achilles' Heel was. After Palin gave her usual non-answer answer (seriously, were there any questions she actually answered?), my wife blurted out "I don't think she knows what an Achilles' Heel is". I fell off my chair, it was so classic - and I'm afraid she was right!
There was some diaries today anticipating the use of the "Chewbacca defense", and sure enough, that's what happened - almost every time Palin substituted one of her talking points for an actual answer of the question.
