So, we're finally seeing the truth from the debate tonight. Patriots don't pay taxes. That's the Republican stance. Take, take, take from the country. Don't give back. Don't be responsible.
I've been watching this issue gurgle for weeks with Biden's first mention of this, and saw it come up tonight. As a former Deaniac, I love truth. And I love that Biden spoke a truth tonight - it's patriotic to pay your taxes?
Why is it so? Because we are blessed to be Americans. I was blessed to be born here. Blessed to have a Constitution already in place. Blessed to have infrastructure, schools, the rule of law, police, firemen, teachers and schools. Blessed by the armed forces, both today, and before me. And as I am blessed, it is good to give back. And other than service (which is one way of giving back), there is also giving back financially.
If, as Palin says, paying taxes is not patriotic, then is it patriotic to not pay taxes? To avoid them? To cheat? Is the man who pays the least taxes the most patriotic?
I am a middle-class guy. I am married to a teacher. I have some friends who are doing very well (let's say they would get a tax hike in an Obama administration). My argument to them, and to Palin, is that the stability and infrastructure of this country is what makes their blessings possible!
OK, take away all the taxes - and take away all they pay for. And then watch the poor and hungry mobs hang them up, because there would be no police to stop them. I guess there would be armed guards, paid for by the rich. Actually, stop. This sounds a lot like some third world countries I've been to. I guess this is what they want..........
