Please, give us all a break and just spout out your "hate the sin, love the sinner" line that has been engrained in your tiny little mind.
Did anyone else notice that Sarah Palin repeated several times that she is tolerant of gays. It almost seemed to me at times as if she was trying to convince herself of it rather than stating a fact. Rather than the tired, "some of my best friends are gay" line, we get the even weaker "I have friends that don't agree with me about being tolerant towards gays". What the heck kind of a statement is that?
If you notice, she would also not say that she was for civil unions. In fact, she kind of hints that she is against it by referring to arguing about nuances. Just come right out and say it Sarah, you think all gays are sinners and need to choose the "right path" or get help to be converted back to normal.
From the transcript of the VP debate:
IFILL: Governor, would you support expanding that beyond Alaska to the rest of the nation?
PALIN: Well, not if it goes closer and closer towards redefining the traditional definition of marriage between one man and one woman. And unfortunately that's sometimes where those steps lead.
But I also want to clarify, if there's any kind of suggestion at all from my answer that I would be anything but tolerant of adults in America choosing their partners, choosing relationships that they deem best for themselves, you know, I am tolerant and I have a very diverse family and group of friends and even within that group you would see some who may not agree with me on this issue, some very dear friends who don't agree with me on this issue.
But in that tolerance also, no one would ever propose, not in a McCain-Palin administration, to do anything to prohibit, say, visitations in a hospital or contracts being signed, negotiated between parties.
But I will tell Americans straight up that I don't support defining marriage as anything but between one man and one woman, and I think through nuances we can go round and round about what that actually means.
But I'm being as straight up with Americans as I can in my non- support for anything but a traditional definition of marriage.
She is "straight up" with Americans in her "non-support"? Who talks like that? Obviously, the notes on the index card for any gay questions were "TOLERANCE" and "1 man - 1 woman".
Thankfully, the whole gay issue looks like it won't be an issue this election cycle. The hateful, anti-family values espoused by the Republican Party and enshrined in their party platform is losing its steam as a wedge issue.
Unfortunately, this year in California, the out-of-state hate groups from Utah are already starting to plaster our airwaves and mailboxes with lies and hate. They are claiming that if the new marriage law is not overturned through constitutional amendment, that gay marriage will have to be taught to kindergarteners (sounds familiar to the sex-ed anti-Obama ad doesn't it?).
Let's all hope that one day in the near future, this is no longer an issue and will be looked back at with amazement at how ignorant some people were.
