This is not an actual script; This is just my idea for what Obama ought to say to the American people. The McCain campaign's penchant for going negative is once again rearing its ugly head, and we'll be hearing a lot about Tony Rezko, William Ayers, and Rev. Wright over the next few weeks.
I think Obama should re-use the tack of his economy ad and run a commercial speaking these words to the American public:
Hi. I'm Barack Obama.
I wanted to prepare you for what you're likely to hear from the McCain campaign in the coming weeks. You'll hear a lot about Tony Rezko, William Ayers, and Rev. Wright. My association with these men were thoroughly examined and debunked during the primaries, and you can check any of these sites to decide for yourself.
(web addresses for Stop the Smears, Factcheck.org, Snopes, etc flash at the bottom of the screen)
So next time you hear John McCain talk about Tony Rezko or William Ayers or Rev. Wright, ask yourself:
Why isn't he talking about the economy?
Why isn't he talking about foreign policy?
Why isn't he talking about energy or the environment or healthcare?
And the answer is . . . he has nothing new to say.
I'm Barack Obama, I approve this message, and I hope you'll vote for Change in November.
