Now it starts. The republican machinery is gearing up to divide the American electorate again with false accusations and far fetched claims. Sarah Palin's disgusting commentary associating Barack Obama with Bill Ayers today is the defining moment, I believe, of this election. How Democrats, the media, and all Americans respond to this will say more about this election than any other issue. I take heart in this portion of Obama's speech:
That is one option. Or, at this moment, in this election, we can come together and say, "Not this time." This time we want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children and white children and Asian children and Hispanic children and Native American children. This time we want to reject the cynicism that tells us that these kids can't learn; that those kids who don't look like us are somebody else's problem. The children of America are not those kids, they are our kids, and we will not let them fall behind in a 21st century economy. Not this time.
More after the jump.
Lets start with this:
Its long, but worth it - there has not been and will not be another speech like this in this election. Encapsulated in this great speech was a proposition to all Americans - let us drop our divisiveness and discuss issues of real importance. Let us rebuke the old slash and burn politics and find solace in a new method of electing our officials with dignity and honor.
And now, we have this:
I believe this is the beginning challenge of Obama's thesis. In the days to come, further Republican attacks will test his eloquent proposition to make this a better country through respect and intelligence. I believe if Obama loses because of this, our country will never recover. We will forever elect Presidents based solely on gossip and rumors - ruining the legacy and basis of Democracy. I think its that important of a test, and more importantly, I think its result will change the course of our country's history for the better or worse.
So what should we do? Sit idly by and complain? Scream and get depressed? Worry and fret until election tuesday?
"Not this time."
We need to fight. From Barack Obama on down to the 17 year old turning 18 this month, we need to fight.
Should we fight with these?
We can do that. But it won't change a thing.
I propose we challenge them not on their own downfalls, but their hypocrisy and lies. Here's my to do list of what we as Obama/Biden supporters can do to stem this tide.
- Engage the netroots like never before - mass email all media outlets and decry the lies and the lack of reporting of the issues. Let any media outlet (like CNN's ridiculous front page headline) know you don't approve of the way they report it.
- Challenge Republicans on their own ground. Email the Republican propaganda shows and tell them how retarded they are. Organize Obama rallies at McCain/Palin rallies. When they start saying that crap - yell liar. Show them we won't take it anymore.
- Repeat the meme - McCain/Palin are desperate and are now starting to lie to cover up the fact that they have no real solutions to our most pressing and debilitating issues. Repeat everywhere - to your friends, families, whomever you can.
- Flood the internet with pro Obama blogs and McCain/Palin are liars blogs. Make them pay for this.
- Email Obama/Biden's campaign and tell them to respond in a forceful but dignified manner. No more statements here and there. They need to demand to be on all the networks and make sure their surrogates get on there to render bogus Palin's bullshit.
I'm sure there are more ways to do this - we just got to do it. I, like many, remember the start depression of 2004. I cannot bear to go through that again, especially with such a wonderful team like Obama/Biden - and a horribly unintelligent McCain/Palin. If we win, Obama's thesis of a new dawn in American politics is validated. If we lose, I believe that our country will spiral into continued failed leadership year after year. And I love this country too much to let that happen. Lets band together and do this. Who's with me?
