Many here are familiar with the attempts by Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen to scrub the voter logs of thousands of legitimate entries before the November election. He is the co-chair of the Wisconsin McCain for President campaign, but he has persisted in claiming that his actions are not political. Today the Capital Times has linked to an audio file of Van Hollen speaking at the recent Republican Convention.
This is not the first time Van Hollen has been busted, but with the audio now revealed, he cannot continue to claim that he never discussed the plan with party officials:
Promising to fight for "one person, one vote," state Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen promised a group of delegates at last month's Republican National Convention that the Department of Justice would act to eliminate voter fraud just days before filing a lawsuit to get the state Government Accountability Board to cross-check voter IDs.
Van Hollen has been a bitter, partisan jerk of the highest magnitude since being sworn into office, and the latest revelations reinforce that judgment:
After filing the lawsuit, Van Hollen told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he didn't discuss the lawsuit with Republican Party leadership prior to taking action. But the GOP's Wisconsin chair, Reince Priebus, later told the Wisconsin State Journal he had spoken with the attorney general several times about the matter.
The judge issuing a recent court ruling that allowed Van Hollen to pursue the lawsuit stated that it will be up to the voters to decide if Van Hollen is acting properly when he is up for reelection in 2010. You bet we will, unless we are stricken from the voter rolls first.
