Amid all the racially-tinged attacks on Barack, has America has forgotten John McCain's own history of explicit racial slurs? And might it be interesting for Barack Obama to dust them off for the town hall tonight, and see how Americans in that setting react?
There is an interesting book called Gook: John McCain's Racism and Why It Matters by Irwin Tang.
Tang furnishes such unpleasant material about McCain as his quote
"I hate the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live."
(February 17, 2000, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle)
Tan gives other examples of McCain's use of "gook" from 1973 up through 2000, beginning with a 1973 U.S. News and World Report article by McCain, containing such nuggets as
"you can never fathom the 'gooks'"
. That's at least a 27-year history.
And maybe worth mentioning in public?
