I'll be brief.
When McCain says that the gloves will come off tonight at the debate, this is a moment that I have been waiting for since it was obvious that he would be the nominee.
Despite his ability to "do well" in a Town Hall setting, he is someone who is most likely to go off the deep end when he is off script and lashing out. We are at a point now where Obama has built a big lead based on the issues and not getting in the mud, and the wheels have pretty much fallen off the wagon on the McCain campaign - in every measurable and some non-measurable ways.
The economy is on the brink of epic disaster. People are really looking for someone or something that can reassure them that, well, they know what the hell they are doing and are not making shit up as they go along. People want someone that they can trust - not someone that is erratic and not seeing the big picture.
Tonight has a benefit on so many levels if McCain "takes the gloves off". It will show that he truly doesn't give a crap about anything that is going on in this country - he is just looking to take everyone else down with his failing and crashing campaign. It will show what HIS priorities are, and can give Obama an easy opening to keep steering the conversation towards what Americans care about - and make McCain look the damn fool in the process.
Hopefully, we are witnessing the complete destruction of McCain as a figure in American politics and of any influence. If he loses his temper or lashes out or goes off on a rant tonight, that is probably the best thing that Obama can hope for.
Back at the beginning of the campaign, I was hoping that he would lose his shit on national TV at one of the debates.
Tonight, my wish just may come true.
