Last night was the first time I watched any of the debates from beginning to end. For some reason, my attention span doesn't allow me to listen and watch condensed campaign stump speeches. However, I thought the townhall meeting style would bring more of an ad-lib discourse to the debate. I was wrong. The format sucked.
However, there are some items of interest this campaign has illustrated, at least to me.
- Last night's debate was a farce, the format did not allow responses and rebuttals. I thought at one point, McCain was going to hug and kiss the chief petty officer who asked a question, just like he did Bush.
- McCain looked old. He was trying too hard, and by the end, he started to fade. Someone should tell John McCain he doesn't have to grovel for votes, just keep bullshitting. I'd rather see him bullshit than beg.
- Although I am a naval veteran, I never met John McCain. I respect and admire his service, especially his valor as a POW. However, I know who my friends are. He should stop trying so hard to be everyone's friend. I stopped counting how many times he used the term "my friend(s)". He didn't use the term once to refer to Obama, even though it is etiquette to refer to a Senate colleague with that term. Maybe he should go on the web and start a new chat room to find more friends.
- The economic crisis, just like global warming, is man made. Someone should tell Sarah Palin.
- There are some weird Americans out there. I watched some of the videos interviewing people coming from a Palin rally. Why do I get the feeling many of those people came from an Aryan Nations kumbaya outing?
- We are still fighting a two front war. Americans are still being killed. Does that mean the surge is working for those families who have to bury their loved ones?
- Osama Bin Laden is still alive.
- George W. Bush is still president.
- Almost 50 million people are without health insurance.
- I never met Joe Sixpack. I heard of Sonny Sixkiller who was a pretty decent quarterback at Washington in the early 70s. Does Joe Sixpack play hockey?
- What is a hockey mom? What position does she play, goalie?
- Will anyone be watching the 3rd debate, and if they do, does that mean they are masochists? McCain is not easy to watch.
- Why are all the McCain spokespeople look like they came out the pages of Cosmo? Where are all the fat, ugly men and women?
- I finally got to see who Rachel Maddow is. Is she really that much smarter than all her guests, or do they just get dumb people to go on her show?
- Finally, I'd like to know if my hometown is going to keep its storied reputation Saturday night. I understand Sarah Palin is dropping the first puck for the Philadelphia Flyers. Now this will be interesting. I guess she hasn't spoken to Jimmy Johnson, Mike Schmidt or even Santa Claus.
