Today Obama gave a very effective speech in which he described John McCain as "erratic." It appears that this is the key phrase the campaign is using to describe McCain, and so I thought I'd try to remind everyone of words spoken last January by a fellow Senator. I think it would make an excellent ad for the campaign to use this quote against McCain - it has a lot of weight coming from one of the most respected members of the Senate- Thad Cochran, Republican from Mississippi.
January 27, 2008
WASHINGTON - Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi, who has known Senator John McCain for more than three decades, on Wednesday endorsed Mitt Romney for president.
Cochran said his choice was prompted partly by his fear of how McCain might behave in the Oval Office.
"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," Cochran said about McCain by phone. "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."
McCain's run-ins with other Republican senators are legendary. Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa said in an interview that he was so upset by a McCain tirade that he didn't speak to him for two years.

These quotes from McCain's fellow Republican Senators are political gold, folks. It would be a shame if the Obama campaign didn't use them.
