Welcome to my first attempt at a monthly post of views from my window. I was trying to post a monthly sunset dairy but there are just too many. So I hope you enjoy these photos from the first half of September.
There will be a few overlaps from A Week of Sunsets: Bicoastal Edition and tomorrow's will end with a photo or two from last night's Rosh Hashanah Sunset but there were plenty of sunsets in the middle too.
For starters a photo from a date that doesn't bring up good thoughts for New Yorkers or any Americans, my view on September 11, 2008;
Below the fold is a much happier chronology of celestial seasonings from the first half of September.
I was very happy to begin September in San Francisco and my A Week of Sunsets: Bicoastal Edition began with photos from my favorite sort of day, a Bronx sunrise followed by a California sunset. That wasn't even September but these three were. On September first, a day the we were still celebrating the victory of Barack Obama, scratching our heads and digging up dirt on McCain's silly choice, as Gustav made landfall along the Louisiana coast, I was watching the calmest of sunset over the San Francisco Bay;
And my last San Francisco sunrise for this year;
September is usually slim pickins when it comes to capturing the sun on the horizon. By far the clearest warm weather month of the year, there are not as many mornings nor evenings with cloud formations to make the views more enjoyable. This September was an exception and there were many good sunsets. Probably many good sunrises too but I don't see many of those.
My first sunset back from San Francisco, September 3rd was so fine that I posted a diary on that sunset. Here's two new photos of the finish;
The next morning as those Palin scandals kept rolling in and with every time she opened her mouth bringing Barack Obama numbers right back up, the sunrise over Van Cortland Park seemed even more beautiful;
The following day as the media proved unwilling to stand up to the lies of Sara Plain I saw a foggy morning in New York but there was still plenty of time;
And by that evening with The New York Times leading the way the media's eye was already improving, good sunset too;
The view on September 7th. The day that a hint came in that on top of all his other atrocities Bush probably completely destroyed the economy too;
I spent September 10 the same place as last night's sunset;
September 11th was one of the finest New York sunsets of the month;
On September 14 I woke up after watching the best Live from New York, It's Saturday Night of all time and could not figure which way funnier, Tina Fey's spot on impersonation or Carly Fiorina calling Tina Fey a sexist.
While it is sad that this nation must turn to comedy for facts, that sunset looked even nicer with the fact that the rest of the nation was catching on to what we already knew, Sara Palin is a joke;
September 15 was a banner day for the future of America. As I went for a walk in the woods John McCain stepped up to the microphone and proved that he is not only a bad judge of character. When John McCain said "the fundamentals of our economy are strong," he proved that on top of his many flaws, McCain doesn't even know what country he lives in.
That night was a typical September sunset. It was like the sun came out so New York could celebrate. Stick a fork in McCain, he's done;
Well that's it, mid month. I hope you enjoyed the pics. I wish I could promise the rest of the month as a warm up for tomorrow before Joe Biden mops the floor with Little Miss Palin but I'm working.
Hopefully I will post the side of the month when the financial crisis really set in on the weekend. The second half had some really good sunsets.
