Just when you thought the Troopergate scandal was going to do some damage to the McCain/Palin ticket, we have BREAKING NEWS!
The campaign has released a report clearing Palin of any wrongdoing in the Troopergate scandal!
Now, we all know that the report from the legislative investigation will be public sometime later today, but that didn't stop the campaign from preempting the official report with one of its own.
We've already heard the news that Todd is trying to take the fall for her, thanks to ajc888's recommended diary, but why would you create a simple diversion when you can dazzle the public with a full-on Statue of Liberty play?
So, what exactly did they have to say? Well, for the life of me, I can't find the actual report. So far, the same AP article, by Matt Apuzzo pops up over and over again.
According to the article, the McCain campaign wrote:
The following document will prove Walt Monegan's dismissal was a result of his insubordination and budgetary clashes with Governor Palin and her administration.
Now, this would seem to follow solidly the McCain pattern of telling us all that he knows how to fix all of our problems but can't tell us. He knows how to get Bin Laden. He knows how to fix the economy (video link). And, apparently, he knows that Sarah Palin had nothing to do with Troopergate despite the fact that the official legislative report has not yet been released.
The campaign's report instead blames former campaign opponent, Andrew Halcro, who has a blog, of conspiring with Wooten to pin Monegan's dismissal on the family's dispute with Wooten.
Well, Mr. Halcro does indeed have a blog and he has a rather long post about Troopergate and how Walt Monegan lost his job. He covers the budget battles (Monegan wanted to increase staff and training budgets; Palin wanted him to "cut corners"), the conflict with Wooten (Palin reported him drinking on the job but never actually saw it; none of the other charges stuck), and the vindictive nature of Sarah Palin and her family (too many instances to mention in a parenthetical).
Halcro isn't some Joe Sixpack either. He's got quite the biography, including a stint at...wait for it...Harvard. The Harvard "elitists" are obviously conspiring against Palin.
So, now that Palin has been officially cleared of all wrongdoing in the Troopergate scandal, she can get back to the more important task of inciting racial violence. After all, Obama is palin' around with terrorists.
Doh! Looks like moderate by extremes spotted it first!
Still looking for that report, though.
