Ok before everybody gets all up in arms about another Ayers diary. Let me preface it by saying I am posing a curiosity question and not trying to rehash old meaningless news.
A little background. I'm sixty years old, was somewhat active in the 60s anti-war movement. However, I never was much of a joiner so didn't belong to SDS, the Weather Underground or any other anti-war groups for that matter. However, having attended BU I was certainly very aware of who these groups were and at least knew members of SDS, whether I ever met someone from the Weather Underground I really couldn't say. This doesn't mean I didn't know who they were, what they did and what they stood for.
Now to my point, having lived during this period and having participated in numerous anti-war rallies and being a news junkie even back then it would be impossible for me to claim I didn't know of and about William Ayers.
However, here at KOS I am guess there are a lot of people under the age of sixty that weren't around during Vietnam and were born sometime after the Weather Underground ceased to exist, which was around 1976.
So I am curious, before this big deal over what I consider to be nothing, when did you first learn about Bill Ayers?
I think you get my point, at the time Obama met Bill all he probably knew of him or needed to know was that he was a professor and The University Of Illinois, Chicago and was highly regarded in the academic and educational community. And even if he did know of Bill's background given his position as a professor one could easily come to the logical conclusion, big deal. That was then and this is now.
