My old editor (at Suck) Ana Marie Cox has a post up at Time's Swampland blog describing sudden efforts by John McCain to tamp down the angry, terror-baiting comments from his violence-minded audience:
[H]e just snatched the microphone out the hands of a woman who began her question with, "I'm scared of Barack Obama... he's an Arab terrorist..."
"No, no ma'am," he interrupted. "He's a decent family man with whom I happen to have some disagreements."
McCain reminds me of the arsonist-firefighter who sets blazes to increase his own firefighting glory. Details after the jump:
Here's how it works:
(1) Start fire.
(2) Fan flames.
(3) Wait for fire to spread.
(4) Rush in to put out fire.
(5) Wait for pundits to commend your return to your old honorable fire-fighter self.
My friends, this is too little, too late. Having whipped their crowds into a frenzy of hate in the past 10 days, McCain/Palin can't now claim credit for doing the decent thing.
What say you?
