I am not a sales-type -- I specifically am horrible at things like calling people that I do not know.
But for Barack Obama, I decided that I would do something that I do not like, because the stakes are too high.
My experience this afternoon is below the fold.
Ok, so Kos keeps telling us that we need to slam the door shut on the Republicans. And I decided I have to do something.
My brother died in June, in part because he'd lost several jobs that have gone overseas, and he no longer had health insurance. Several days ago, his election ballot application for CO showed up in my mail box. I was pissed, because he would have definitely voted for Obama. So, I can't do anything about that, but I can make some calls. I've already donated what I can, and I think he's got enough money, what we need is the people power.
A few days ago I signed up for the neighbor-to-neighbor campaign, and then I didn't do it then. Today I went back on the website, and was offered the opportunity to make women-to-women calls in Indiana. That sounded up my alley.
The calls went well. My first call was a bit scattered, and I forgot to ask about whether she was willing to do early voting, but other than that, I didn't embarras myself.
One interesting thing is that most of the folks I talked to are not interested in early voting -- there is suspicion about what happens to early/absentee votes, and these folks want to show up at the polls to vote.
For all of you out there who are saying to yourself that this isn't your cup of tea, well, suck it up and make some calls. You can do this, so join the team, or wish you had on November 5th!
