There's no doubt Obama is the better candidate for progressives than McCain or even Hillary. The overwhelming support of the progressive crowd for him in the primaries was based on that fact ,but right now the need and urgency of getting him elected doesn't mean we should stop looking closely at where he now stands on issues that are important to us.
I used to live in Chicago and I've known Obama longer than most of you .I watched the 2 presidential debates and I was almost schocked by how much he has changed throughout this election campaign, He sounded more like a moderate republican than a democrat or a liberal.I was watching the debate with some non-american friends , who kept asking me if Obama were really left or if both he and McCain were from the same party.I know the question is a bit stupid but I can't blame them, as I really wondered myself at times if that was the Obama I supported in his senate campaign.
I know you have to move to the center a bit to get elected, but you shouldn't abandon your principles .The BO I knew would never call a sovereign state like Venezuela a rogue nation based on nothing, the BO I knew would never almost threaten a sovereign country like Iran with war based on flawed evidence, the BO I know is pro choice and pro gay rights including gay marriage, the BO I knew would never support an outrageous bill like the FISA bill, the BO I knew would never support the flawed Wall Street bailout bill, the BO I knew would never call the surge a success when innocents are still losing their lives everyday in an unnecessary war,the BO I knew would never support Bush's "faith based" inititaive...
Well, this isn't the change I expected.I'm still gonna vote for him cos I know he's a progressive liberal at heart ,but if he governs like the moderate republican he's become ,he will disappoint a lot of people and will probably be a 1-term president.
