Watching the news unfold, the growing fear in my mind is that this election will produce two losers. One will be John McCain for losing the election. The other will be Barack Obama for inheriting a nation that's on thin ice and a spiteful political climate.
"Kill him!" supporters of McPalin are yelling at their rallies. The embroiled GOP core voters seem hoodwinked into believing that Senator Obama is of the terrorist persuasion. The election is looking good for an Obama victory. But an Obama presidency would be faced with the challenge of guiding our nation through a minefield, with the slightest misstep capable of turning him into the scapegoat, both to the American people and to history, for the catastrophic policies of the Bush regime.
There's as good a chance of something bad happening to the country and Obama being blamed for it as there is for me to publish a poorly written blog on the internet. Let's not forget the association between economic depression and crime. Regardless of what an Obama administration would do to reduce the sociological factors that are correlated with crime, the rate is bound to suffer a bump from the economic depression.
A big part of Obamas foreign policy position is his insistence on withdrawing from Iraq and escalating the war effort in Afghanistan. He's right on this, and has been for a long time. Unfortunately, the effort has already been seriously mismanaged for the past 7 years (or the past 28, but hey who's counting).
There's also a little bit of a problem with the economy and national debt. Nobody knows how these things will play out, but I do believe that Obama will make the best decisions possible when dealing with these crises.
