Welcome to the bottom of the barrel--the 2008 Presidential campaign inspired by John McCain and Sarah Palin.

The site whose diary I had initially linked to has removed the post and banned the user--a good policy on their part and not dissimilar to what we would do on dKos if such a post appeared. There are people on this site who can and will condemn the lynching threat against Sen. Obama better than I will. But...
EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO CONDEMN IT.
So I'll start:
No small minded, self-centered, knuckle dragging, loudmouth with a crud encrusted laptop is going to turn this election into a lynch mob. Good lord, no. That is not going to happen.
This election will not be dropped head first into the gutter by a few bitter imbeciles using the public image of a Presidential candidate to vent their sick need to look big by dangling the threat of violent death in the face of a sitting Senator who has eyes on the Oval Office.
Not this election. Not the next. Not one single day in the life of this country. And I'll tell you why: because this country does not belong to the small.
This country does not belong to those who sit in their basements hobbling together murder notes with bootleg copies of Adobe Photoshop.
This country does not belong to halfwit agitators who grin while typing 'noose' into Google image search while opening another liter bottle of Coke.
This country does not belong to the violent, to the thugs, to the gangs.
This country does not belong to those who pour salt in the wounds of other Americans and laugh at their pain.
This country does not belong to the petty.
This country belongs to those who believe that we can do better--those who believe that no matter how well we once did, we can do better and not because this country is bad or lost or wrong, but because we are best when we are finding and solving the problems that sit right in front of us for decades--waiting only for us to reach out, grab them, and bend them into the future we want and can make ourselves.
And then there are those who make posters threatening Presidential candidates with nooses--and wine about others making them do it.
Those people--those few people who waste their time and ours with that nonsense that debases us all--they are not working for anything. They are free loaders, but they are not free.
Lynchings? You can try, goddammit, but you'll have to get through me first. And there's a line behind me that stretches millions deep in every direction, filled with people who will stand and take my place.
Some people ask if the country is ready for a black man to be President. Well, I'll tell you this: the country is way past ready. We are not just ready, we are already working to make sure that every day from this day forward takes this country to the future we have waited 8 wasted years to achieve.
THERE WILL BE NO LYNCHINGS IN THIS ELECTION!
But the more McCain sinks in the polls, the more desperate the already desperate few out there may become. And we will be ready.
Ready with our voices.
Ready with our actions.
Arms locked.
Working together.
To win this darn election for ourselves, for our parents, for our children, and for this country.
