My poems are rants. Or my rants are poems. Anyway, I thought I'd share. Here are three of them.
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
The wealth
to trickle down
as Ronnie promised
got dammed up
in deregulation
platitudes of “free”
and greed
an untenable situation
that finally burst
A Wall Street disaster
as floods of worthless paper
drown the middle class
drench the poor
while the wealthy
with their multi-million
dollar bonuses
dressed in golden parachutes
beg for a bailout.
POLITICAL SCIENCE LESSON
The constitution
does not say
the President
will make a profit
for himself and his friends
I don’t remember reading
that his VP and other buddies
could snub subpoenas
out CIA agents
politicize the Justice Dept.
And didn’t there used to be
something about habeas corpus
Ah, but the dummy in charge
probably never
took Latin
Last time you voted for
the guy you’d like to
have a beer with
I suggest this time
you pick the Constitutional scholar
YOUR 401K WONDERS…
The city tries to put its trees on display
a concrete interruption here and there
but New York’s forest of stately buildings
rules the view
From this high rise window
I see the dance of people
and cars below
At night the lights take over
the streets become a decoration
they blink white, red, yellow and green
headlights, tail lights, street lights, traffic lights
In the distance Wall Street’s outline towers
So many windows
One wonders behind which of these
did Paulson rip out all of his hair
