Opened up my most recent Swampland e-mail this morning and saw this opening post:
Swampland - The Next New McCain
One point in particular stood out for me, because it is the number one reason why I am voting for Obama:
He still talks about Obama being prepared to "concede defeat in Iraq." (Palin talks about Obama being unable to use the words "win" or "victory" in Iraq--words that David Petraeus, incidentally, doesn't use either.)
I challenge anyone to please explain to me how we can acheive victory in Iraq. Has anyone heard any politician detail what the United State's objective is in Iraq?
The war was started with the objective to destroy Weapons of Mass Destruction. So far, no weapons of mass destruction have been found. Doesn't that mean we have met our objective? If we have met out objective, how are we leaving in defeat?
I believe that the new objective (I'm guessing here, because no one in the adminstration or the McCain campaign has identified it) is the democratization of Iraq. If I'm right, I would love to see their plan for changing 1000s of year of beliefs and a tribal society to reflect the beliefs and political organization of the United States.
Wasn't this tried once - I believe it was called the crusades.
Just a Monday morning rant (I know its Tuesday, but my brain is just waking up from the long weekend).
