WE SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS DIVERSIONARY PALIN CONFAB AT ALL. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION.
WE ARE BEING FORCED TO WASTE PRECIOUS TIME AND RESOURCES DISCUSSING THE INADEQUACIES OF SARAH PALIN WHILE OUR COUNTRY SINKS UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF GEORGE W. BUSH--A PROTOTYPE EXAMPLE OF WHY PALIN IS ENTIRELY AN UNWORTHY CHOICE FOR ANY NATIONAL PRESIDENTIAL TICKET. PERIOD.
What a monstrous and calamitous waste of thought and concern has been devoted to any topic of discussion related to this person so wholly unqualified and unacceptable to any rational American voter as to mock our present precarious, dangerous defacement and devaluation of credibility in the eyes of the entire world.

Palin: A looker who winks sends a message.
Blogger Diane Mapes: Wink! Flirty gesture or facial spasm?
With a half dozen blinks of her left eye, Republican Sarah Palin raised eyebrows and rampant speculation, inspiring the launch of a new Web site — palinwink.com — and prompting the British newspaper The Guardian to dub the seemingly flirtatious phenomenon, "Winkgate."
But what exactly is a wink and what does it signify?
Snip
[Watch the first wink of the debate by going to msnbc.com's Debate Analyzer and clicking on the question "How would you work to shrink the polarization in Washington?"]
While blinking may be necessary for healthy eyes, winking is generally a deliberate expression of personality and is a learned behavior, like snapping your fingers, rolling your tongue or raising one eyebrow, says Dr. Roy S. Rubinfeld, an ophthalmologist in the Washington, D.C. area and clinical correspondent for the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
"It’s normal for us to close our eyes, to blink; that’s a natural important element of eye health and is unconscious," he says. "But winking is generally a conscious act, although there are medical reasons that cause people to wink or blink pathologically."
For example, blepharospasm, which causes people to blink or wink in a spasmodic way, is one such condition. Hemifacial spasm, a neurological condition which causes one side of the face to contract, resulting in a pronounced wink which generally involves both the cheek and mouth, is another. Involuntary winks can also be caused by head injuries, particularly those involving the seventh cranial nerve — the nerve which allows you to close your eye.
But most winks aren’t due to any type of medical condition, including Gov. Palin's, says Rubinfeld.
"I would think that winking is something she’s done since she was a kid," he says. "It’s become part of her personality and her body language."
Interpreting what message Palin was trying to send with that particular bit of body language, however, can be tricky, says David B. Givens, director of the Center for Nonverbal Studies and author of "Love Signals: A Practical Field Guide to the Body Language of Courtship and Crime Signals: Body Language of Murderers, Terrorists, and Thieves."
Winking can be a flirtatious gesture, but it’s not always meant to be sexually suggestive, Givens explains. "Winking packs a lot of different meanings," he says. "[It can be] something you do to build rapport. It’s a friendly gesture, like laughter. It’s mildly flirtatious, but you do it with anybody."
Haven’t we been down this path before, Mapes points out George W. Bush who mockingly winked throughout his first race for president in 2000 when on to wink in silly and embarrassing situations which led to humiliation and alienation:
When President George W. Bush winked at the Queen during a 2007 visit to England in an attempt to cover a verbal gaffe (he’d accidentally suggested she was more than 200 years old), Her Royal Highness was not amused.
In addition to being a friendly come-on, winks can also imply a knowing deception, that "you don’t believe what you’re saying," explains Givens. "One guy will promise another guy something at a meeting and then wink to a third guy. He’s saying he’s not going to follow through. He’s being disingenuous."
That’s where winking can become a risky choice for a politician, especially when used in a high-profile event such as a national debate.
"Winking is probably something Sarah Palin has done throughout her teenage years and her adult life," says Givens. "She’s used it in a flirtatious or rapport-building sense, to get people on her side. But ... to me, it gave [her words] a slightly deceptive ring, like she didn’t believe what she was saying."
A wink and a nod from Palin are painfully close to the kind of sophomoric insincerity and duplicity of the wink and nod disaster of the two term George W. Bush.
The outcome of his reign is no winking matter. The "wink-ette"Palin puts us in mind that Sarah may be disasterously just "George Bush in a skirt."
David B. Givens concludes:
When it comes to Palin, the governor of Alaska's overall body language and physical appearance are an attention-grabbing signal to men...
"The big hair, the makeup, the dress, the smiles, the winks – it’s a message that says ‘Look at me, I’m attractive," he says. "She plays up the feminine signals to a degree that’s more noticeable than what you’d see in the average American businesswoman or politician such as Hillary Clinton or Martha Stewart."
If male voters can be cuckolded to vote for McCain because of Palin’s coquettish come-ons, the hard right wins game over.
Christian conservative Billy Graham was bamboozled by Dick Nixon. The warning from Christian history:
Dr. Graham is respected for his national ministry and for his goodly character in times of national peril and catastrophe.
What many of us do not know was that this "national prophet" was sorely tested by his involvement with Richard Nixon and the Watergate crimes.
Billy’s ultimate test and denial came, according to James Hillman, in his book The Soul’s Code, following Nixon’s fall from great power.
"(S)o firm was (Graham’s) belief, so entertaining was he of his doubts, that Graham never picked up Nixon’s shadow.
"When it growled forth from the Watergate tapes, Graham entered the deepest depression of his life and suffered a loss of faith. He paced, bit his fingernails, was nauseated, could not sleep."
"(Billy Graham) was temporarily cornered in the contradiction posed by belief .... ‘I really believed [in Nixon] as the greatest possibility ever for leading this country on into its greatest and finest days. He had the character for it. I’d never heard him tell a lie.’ ‘These tapes revealed a man I never knew; I never saw that side of him.’"
What would Graham do with John McCain?
McCain as a problematic liar: McCain’s probity and integrity as a potential U.S. President are totally undermined by his selection of Palin.

McCain has turned ugly. His dishonesty would be unacceptable in any politician, but McCain has always set his own bar higher than most. He has contempt for most of his colleagues for that very reason: They lie. He tells the truth. He internalizes the code of the McCains -- his grandfather, his father: both admirals of the shining sea. He serves his country differently, that's all -- but just as honorably. No more, though.
I am one of the journalists accused over the years of being in the tank for McCain. Guilty. Those doing the accusing usually attributed my feelings to McCain being accessible. This is the journalist-as-puppy school of thought: Give us a treat, and we will leap into a politician's lap.
Not so. What impressed me most about McCain was the effect he had on his audiences, particularly young people. When he talked about service to a cause greater than oneself, he struck a chord. He expressed his message in words, but he packaged it in the McCain story -- that man, beaten to a pulp, who chose honor over freedom. This had nothing to do with access. It had to do with integrity.
McCain has soiled all that. His opportunistic and irresponsible choice of Sarah Palin as his political heir -- the person in whose hands he would leave the country -- is a form of personal treason, a betrayal of all he once stood for. Palin, no matter what her other attributes, is shockingly unprepared to become president. McCain knows that. He means to win, which is all right; he means to win at all costs, which is not.

What about McCain raising cane over Bill Ayers, using Palin to do the punching below the belt?
Bush/McCain’s involvement with the Trotskyites, intertwined in the cabal of the NeoCon elements, is by far more dangerous to the country and governance than any association that Obama may have had with Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers, or others Sean Hennity may have conjured to undermine the character of Obama... Just look at the upheaval and trouble their imperialistic lust has produced, and only imagine the trouble the embers of this conflagration will kindle well into the future.
Palin is a no choice at all:
Palin is a cheap-shot choice by James Dobson and company, underscored by the group that forced McCain to put her on the ticket: The Council for National Policy—a secretive group of religious and market fundamentalists who shape erstwhile conservative values first Christians in America.
What is their goal? Using Palin to spice up the failed McCain campaign to ensure they, the CNP, get to pick the next 3 or 4 nominees for the U.S. Supreme Court.
What does Rev. Bess, a retired Baptist minister from a small community near Wasilla, Palin’s hometown say about Palin and her religious set.
"She scares me...She’s Jerry Falwell with a pretty face."
"At this point, people in this country don’t grasp what this person is all about. The key to understanding Sarah Palin is understanding her radical theology."
PALIN IS WRONG FOR AMERICA.
And this in summation from Christopher Hitchens:
The most insulting thing that a politician can do is to compel you to ask yourself: "What does he take me for?" Precisely this question is provoked by the selection of Gov. Sarah Palin. I wrote not long ago that it was not right to condescend to her just because of her provincial roots or her piety, let alone her slight flirtatiousness, but really her conduct since then has been a national disgrace. It turns out that none of her early claims to political courage was founded in fact, and it further turns out that some of the untested rumors about her—her vindictiveness in local quarrels, her bizarre religious and political affiliations—were very well-founded, indeed. Moreover, given the nasty and lowly task of stirring up the whack-job fringe of the party's right wing and of recycling patent falsehoods about Obama's position on Afghanistan, she has drawn upon the only talent that she apparently possesses.
It therefore seems to me that the Republican Party has invited not just defeat but discredit this year, and that both its nominees for the highest offices in the land should be decisively repudiated, along with any senators, congressmen, and governors who endorse them.
Hitchens: McCain lacks the character and temperament to be president. And Palin is simply a disgrace,
