Thanks to the few of you who heard my last entry. Illinois is not exactly a battleground but I thought I should comment on two more races and some interesting developments in them - such as Cheney emerging from his underground bunker to support Marty Ozinga only to cancel. Read below.
On another note I find it annoying how not only the Republicans are scrubbing the brand from their ads and facades but so are some of the Dems. I know some Dems are fighting in traditionally Red areas where the D is a bad word but come on, if you're on the field you gotta' wear the uniform.
So first up on my list is this weirdness in the race for Illinois 11th Congressional District in the race between (D) Debbie Halvorson and creepy dude (R) Marty Ozinga.
Debbie is a good candidate and is running a good campaign I think. Her ads are where they needs to be and focus on some important issues like health care, to which Ozinga speaks the breath of death that an ER is a good health care policy.
There is also a Green party candidate in this race too, but the real kicker and why we need to laugh or just be bewildered because some genius in Ozinga's campaign thought it would be prudent to import none other then the Prince of Darkness himself Dick Cheney.
Here is the release in the Chicago Tribune.
However, as some of you know, the medical profession was shocked to discover not only that Cheney had an irregular heartbeat but, even more of a shock, that there was in fact a heart there to begin with. Hear the tragic play by play from the sniffling Conservatives at their humble blog IllinoisReview. You can also read the travesty of the disappointment of having to refund the $2,300 for photo ops with Vice Cheney at the SouthTownStar.
Anyway my question is what are these people thinking?! Seriously. I thought this race was tight, then you're going to remind all the voters that the source of all shadows was going to emerge from his lair to remind everyone why they're broke, in two neverending wars, having less home values, no respect around the globe...I mean...seriously?
Help out Debbie and get her some money if you can, and if you live in the area by all means vote for her and volunteer. It does not look like Ozinga really has a chance but if you know this area then you know it could go Red - though it certainly is trending Blue this time.
NOW another race catching my attention is the one for Melissa Bean in the 8th District. Bean faces a Republican challenger named Steve Greenberg (not the guy who wrote disco classic Funkytown) but the former NHL player who has had another "erratic" campaign. Sponsored by the half-assed NRCC - who admit that they expected most of their candidates to be wealthy and fund most of their own campaigns (A winning strategy indeed, or an example of the free market) it looks as if the economic situation has turned against this political novice whose business was sued as of June of 08 for defaulting on loans (this is cached on the Lake Zurich Courier's site but not available. This appears to be in the bag but still give what you can, vote and volunteer if you have the time.
