So after watching the debate, I had a few comments. First, after watching the first three debates (two presidential and one vice presidential) I hadn't thought there was a clear winner. That was not the case in this debate. Obama swept the floor with McCain. Or, more accurately, McCain did it to himself.
But out of the whole night, one moment really stuck out for me. Check out the video after the jump, my friends.
I could watch this clip all night long. The deer in the headlights look was absolutely priceless. The word bewilderment comes to mind.
However, it has some serious implications for McCain. This seems to indicate he doesn't remember Obama stating this in the last debate. It also indicates no one on the McCain team has taken the time to investigate Obama's plan. The assertion that Obama requires small businesses to provide healthcare insurance (and therefore would need to penalize small businesses if they did not) is simply not found in his proposals.
The Obama-Biden plan provides new affordable health insurance options by:
(1) guaranteeing eligibility for all health insurance plans;
(2) creating a National Health Insurance Exchange to help Americans and businesses purchase private health insurance;
(3) providing new tax credits to families who can’t afford health insurance and to small businesses with a new Small Business Health Tax Credit;
(4) requiring all large employers to contribute towards health coverage for their employees or towards the cost of the public plan;
(5) requiring all children have health care coverage;
(5) expanding eligibility for the Medicaid and SCHIP programs; and
(6) allowing flexibility for state health reform plans.
So what is it then? Is he too stupid to understand Obamas policy? Is he too clueless to realize how easy it is for Obama to refute his baseless accusation? This, frankly, was a major lapse by McCain who should have known better by now.
