Cross posted from Blue Jersey.....
Obama should still win...but he failed to expose the absolutely fatally flawed McCain/Palin candidacy for what it is.
I understand the "strategy" of appealing to swing voters to win; and it just may work.....but that didn't work in the last two elections.
Folks, you don't get it. The Republican/Rovian establishment CHEATS; they will do their damnedest to "fix" this election by any and all means possible.
10 points isn't enough of a cushion....especially so in the "battleground" states.
Look to another nail biting election night and an unnecessarily "close" outcome.
If Obama had gone for McCains rabidly exposed jugular last night he would have expanded his base, won over most of the undecideds and totally demoralized McCain and his base by exposing the lies and fatal flaws that are at the core of McCain's campaign.
The cost of "winning small" for Obama is that he won't have the coat tails he could have had.....and he'll be an embattled president much as Bill Clinton was for four years without one day's respite.
There may be no "October Surprise" per se....what we might see is a "November 4th Shocker" in which, lo and behold, once again the polls turn out to be "mistaken" and the exit polls are once again "flawed".
These people own the companies that sell us the very machines that will be counting the votes, why does anyone think they won't pull the same crap they did in 2000 and 2004? Only this time they've had more time to slick up the operation.
All that could have been avoided by Obama going at full throttle and going for a knockout instead of a split decision in last night's debate.
I truly hope I'm totally wrong and that there is an Obama landslide and we get a filibuster proof Senate!
Here's a telling comment from a Republican....
Here's Karl Rove, telegraphing the cover story that will "justify" how they steal the election....
I hope I'm wrong but if the Obama campaign passively rests on the "lead" and tries to play out the clock on defense...they will certainly lose. And that means that WE lose.
Of course Obama can/should still win the election; but he had better get busy and start kicking some ass.
The half hour of national air time will be critical.
And by the way, when I say "kicking ass" I'm not talking about crazed histrionics, quite the contrary....McCain is totally vulnerable to a level headed dissection of his whole candidacy that would be totally overpowering if it came from the mouth of his opponent......again, so far, Obama has not shown the capacity to drive a stake through the very heart of this monstrous opponent.......and yes, McCain has become a monster.
If, God forbid, McCain is allowed to steal this one; America, and maybe the whole of humanity will be seriously fucked.
