Last night I saw Uncle Pat on MSNBC. Despite the fact that I dont agree with his views, I find Pat highly entertaining, and I do enjoy watching him debate with Maddow and the others.
But his new line (used on other networks and commentators too) was that "but for" the ecomony tanking, McCain would have won.
The truth of the matter is, the closer we get to the election day, you are going to see the numbers tighten a bit. They always do. And some commentator will see a McCain "surge" and claim he's got a shot.
Which is why the truth must come out. We cant let up and cant give the republicans any semblance of hope. Keep fighting !
And as for the "chance" McCain actually had a month ago before these problems started.... The polling on September 7 had Mccain up 1%. September 14 Mccain was up 2.1%
RCP, with no tossup states showed that even with Mccain up 2.1% in the popular vote, Obama won the Electoral College 273 to 265. The old Colorado, New Mexico, and Iowa firewall.

On September 21, Obama regained the lead by 2.2%. And he led by 4.8% on September 28, with 300+ EV. And he hasnt looked back since.
So if someone tries to claim "McCain was winning...", show them the REAL winning score.
