h/t to ColoradoPols

A little over a week ago the corrupt and odious Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave (see Rolling Stone 10 worst list) had the Republican district chair file a total BS complaint, which the Musgrave campaign wrote.

So now the Musgrave campaign is running an ad saying that Betsy Markey is under criminal investigation. This is a horrible abuse of the judicial process, filing a formal complaint that is baseless, and then using that bogus charge in ads. Marilyn Musgrave always campaigns in the gutter but with this effort she has reached a new low.

What can you do?

If you live in the CO-4 district, talk to your friends, co-workers, neighbors and tell them that this is total BS. And stress to them that for our democratic process to work, they must, absolutely must, let Marilyn Musgrave know that this kind of campaigning is offensive to our democratic process.

Second, write a letter to the editor in one of the local papers. Even if the letter is not printed, the opinion page writers watch the incoming letters to gage opinion in the district. Fort Collins Coloradoan, Greely Tribune, Longmont Times-Call, & Report Herald.

Third, let Marilyn know that you find this type of attack way beyond the bounds of what is acceptable. Her website does not list any email address (interesting...) but does list a phone number of 970-587-5732. Be polite, but clear.

Musgrave's opponet is Betsy Markey. Betsy is a quality candidate. She is an honest, intelligent, progressive candidate with a lot of experience. And she has proudly campaigned as a progressive in a district that leans strongly Republican. She is everything we want in a netroots candidate, and more.

And equally important, she has gone from behind in the polls to a an 8 point lead. Betsy is lined up to win this seat. This is why Musgrave is going below the gutter - because she is presently on the road to defeat. And we need to make sure that even with this effort, that we turn this seat from one of the worst to one of the best.

Finally, Marilyn Musgrave has a boatload of money in her campaign (hey, corruption has it's perks) and Betsy Markey is running on empty. You can DONATE HERE. I know you are asked by everyone to donate, but this is one of the races where victory is ours, if Betsy has the funds. She's leading in the polls - we just need to keep her there.

And it's a chance to replace one of the worst with one of the best.

update: the ad is here.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
