When I first posted my story about Jocelyn Voltaire on Wednesday, there was a passionate response both here on Daily Kos and around the internet.
To sum up: Jocelyn is a single mother of 3 kids living in Queens Village, NY. She is originally from Haiti, became an American citizen, worked 3 jobs through college, and was able to purchase her home in 1987.
Her dream was shattered when she fell victim to the predatory lending scam of Litton Loan Servicing (now owned by Goldman Sachs). The price of her mortgage sky-rocketed and, earlier this year, she was told her home would be foreclosed.
Weeks after that, she was informed her son who was serving in Iraq, was dead.
Today, October 17th, her home will be auctioned off at Queens County Supreme Court. There are a group of supporters showing up with her to protest this and donations have been pouring in since yesterday. There will be a press conference at noon. American News Project will be filming this and reporting as it happens.
Many of you have tried to lend support to Jocelyn and there's a finally a movement to do so.
Here is a link to her support page.
I also updated her video news report with some new information.
If you haven't seen it, please do. And recommend if this affects you the way it's affects so many others.
The video is autoplay, sorry. If you know how to disable this, let me know.
UPDATE: Sadly, for the third time in three days, this story fell off the radar here at Kos within an hour. I wish Jocelyn's story could have gotten to more people. Luckily Democracy Now! and Huffington Post gave it some good coverage. Hopefully, she can keep her home.
