This election is about us. Obama said so.
So, let's list what we want. I will start with my wish list. Please add yours (positive speak only, K?).
My first wish: Obama/Biden 2008
Wish List:
- Health Care for all with special attention to the 60-65 year olds. I would venture to guess that there is a huge percentage of this demographic that is uninsured but I couldn't find a report to reference. They are too old to find affordable policies, many work low wage jobs, and too young for Medicare. This demographic really needs preventative care but can't afford the high premiums offered by insurance companies that will probably reject their claims anyway due to "pre-existing conditions" Isn't everything pre-existing when you are over 60! Clinics should provide check ups and meds for cholesterol, high blood pressure, and cancer screenings could save huge medical expenses later.
- Public Safety budgets are being reduced throughout America because of budget deficits. This is an alarming trend. The Mayor/Manager of my small town (15,000) is salaried at $150,000/year! Rules need to be in place to insure citizens taxes are being used to protect them.
- Education - If it is true that America spends more per child than other Western nations then who the heck is raking in the dough? Reasonable wages for everyone, including teachers supported by reasonable taxes. We can do better. Find the waste and feed the classrooms.
- Jobs - There is a lot of repairing to be done in America. There is work to be done. FDR rallied the country.
- Capitalism Reform - Check out "Sufficiency Capitalism". This tried philosophy works. Ask Ben and Jerry! See my other diary entries for details.
- Patriot Act - Fix it and return our Constitutional Rights immediately.
- Warner Military Commission Act - Fix it. Posse Comitatus is too important to our Republic.
- Gramm's Billl - Return our banking laws to FDRs principles.
- Guantanamo - Close it forever! Habeus Corpus for all!
- Publicly Funded Elections - For all!
- No paid lobbyists - Ever. Only volunteer citizens advocates.
- Ear Marks - No! Only sunlight legislation!
- YOUR TURN, FOLKS.
- Higher Education - Make State Schools a Public Utility. Private universities can continue to compete; however, a certain % of students must be drawn from lower income and diversity before foreign students fill ranks.
- Pharmaceuticals - Made in USA only. This is too dangerous to outsource, Americans need affordable drugs, and Americans need the jobs.
- Environment - Undo all the damage done to laws by the Bush Administration.
- Signing Letters - I want to read all of them.
