Mike Rogers is ranked 403 out of 435 members of Congress in a
Power Ranking of all the members of Congress that measures position, influence, legislation and earmarks.
In fact some of those ranked ahead of Rogers are Lynn "Ten Commandments" Westmoreland from Georgia (398), "Terrible" Tom Tancredo from Colorado (397), Marilyn Musgrave from Colorado (391) and Michele "McCarthy" Bachman from Minnesota (363). All of these are considered right-wing partisans and seemingly should be less effective for that matter than this guy. Rogers calls himself as being able to work across the aisle. I’m not even sure he’s gotten out of his seat.
Well good news you have an opportunity to get rid of this guy by helping me elect Joshua Segall
But let me tell you more about Rogers.
Mike Rogers is in the bottom 93% of members of Congress. Most of those below him came in after him. In fact there are only 4 Democrats ranked below them. Three of those are from the class of 2006 and the other is Louisiana Gem Bill "I keep cash in the freezer" Jefferson.
Of the 44 members of Congress that entered in 2002, Rogers ranks 42 out of 44. And one of those is Rick Renzi, perhaps the only more corrupt member of Congress than Bill Jefferson.
Rogers and Bachman both received significant contributions from Eric Cantor’s Every Republican is Crucial PAC (ERIC Pac). Remember Cantor had to return some Abramoff money.
I’ll get to a Marilyn Musgrave connection as well.
Oh and of all Alabama Congressmen Rogers is ranked 7th out of 7
So if that isn’t bad enough, take a look at Rogers and his committee assignments.
Agriculture Committee – 38 out of 44 Ranking Member
House Armed Services Committee – 56 out of 62
Homeland Security – 30 out of 34 – And according to Rogers House Website he is a
Ranking Member, Subcommittee on Management, Investigations and Oversight (MIO).
Oh and the guy that is a ranking subcommittee member on this management, investigations and oversight committee. Well he took money into his so called Leadership PAC from the only known Compound 1080 manufacturer in the Country, who happens to be in his district. In fact, Charles Wigley, is the only individual contributor to the American Security Pac. As we reported in a diary back In August
The only individual contribution to Rogers' American Security PAC was for $1,500 from Oxford resident Charles Wigley, the owner of Tull Chemical Company.
Tull is the only U.S. manufacturer of the pesticide sodium fluoroacetate, commonly known as Compound 1080. It is almost exclusively used in a few states in the American West where ranchers use it to control predators, in New Zealand where the government uses it to try to eradicate a non-native population of opossums and, according to Wigley, Australia and Israel.
Compound 1080 used to have many manufacturers, including Monsanto, but was banned in the early 1970s. The EPA reapproved it during the Reagan administration for limited use. Since it was developed decades ago, the National Institutes of Health has blamed the poison for 16 deaths, and the EPA lists Compound 1080 as a Category 1 Toxin. The number of reports of people growing ill from coming into contact with it is expanding
Although Charles Wigley denies that his company has manufactured Compound 1080 in twenty years the Anniston Star reports
Compound 1080 has another controversy attached to it: In 2003, when American troops were storming through Iraq, looking for, and worrying about, chemical weapons, they stumbled upon someone who offered to show them some.
According to the final report compiled by the Iraqi Survey Group and released in 2005, investigators who were sent to Iraq to try to find evidence of weapons of mass destruction, spent a good deal of time looking into the workings of an entity within the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) called the M16.
Though in the end the survey group found little, there were a few exceptions, including a bottle of Compound 1080, with a label clearly showing its address: Oxford, Alabama.
Well it gets better. Currently there is legislation pending on a Compound 1080 ban in the Agriculture Committee. The American Security PAC (Roger’s Leadership Pac) donated to Marilyn Musgrave who is a member of the Agriculture Committee. But of course Rogers denies talking to Wigley about this although Wigley claims he spoke to a member of Rogers staff in detail.
Mike Rogers sure does get a lot of PAC money for somebody this ineffective. And it’s spread across the board from all sorts of special interests. No wonder he voted for the bailout package both times. And of course he voted against the GI Bill, which you would expect since he’s on the Armed Services Committee. Surprised he’s not a ranking member of the Veterans Affairs Committee.
Unfortunately, I’ve had to spend all this space and I didn’t get to tell you about the potential greatness of his opponent and my friend Josh Segall. Rogers has been too busy attacking Josh by attacking Speaker Nancy Pelosi.. Well to take a page out of McCain’s playbook
"Perhaps Mike Rogers should Move To San Francisco and Run against Nancy Pelosi
"
Josh has a far superior knowledge of Rogers on all the issues including agriculture, health care, job creation and infrastructure. And he would treat Veterans much better than Rogers has and I don’t mean by just his votes. Veterans in the district complain about Rogers only using them as props come election time.
We need your help in being able to keep Josh on the air the last two weeks and tell voters about how much better he would be than do-nothing Rogers.
Please help me support Joshua Segall. I’ve almost reached my goal of $1,000 raised through my Act Blue Two for Tuesday page. Help get me way over the top.
