Nice article in ESPN magazine about Obama.

Note: some of this article in ESPN Magazine will make more sense if you're familiar with fantasy football.
But my general observations:
- Obama was smart to take the author (Rick Reilly) up on this opportunity to be profiled in a magazine that would obviously reach an important target audience (mostly young males, interested in sports, who might - as a rampant generalization - be more inclined than other groups not to vote at all, or to perhaps lean conservative).
- McCain was dumb not to take Reilly up on his offer for a similar interview/profile.
2a. Submitting to an interview like this is just one of thousands of small things the Obama team has done right in this election season, and which the McCain team has done wrong. It's not as though Rick Reilly was going to trash either one of them. Reilly was obviously going to write a witty, generally sympathetic piece. It was D-U-M dumb of McCain's people not to realize this.
- Obama shows he clearly has a great sense of humor, and not with pre-planned, shopworn anecdotes that are barely relevant, but with on-the-spot, respond-to-what-you-just-said humor that is not only funny in and of itself, but pays respect to the other person in the conversation by showing that he's actually engaging in the moment, rather than just having his brain on cruise-control.
