Imagine planning a rally in support of the war in Iraq for tens of thousands of like-minded chicken hawks but nobody came.
Organizers for yesterday's pro-war demonstration on the National Mall should have an interesting time spinning the fact that a mere 400 people attended their rally compared with a throng of more than 100,000 at the anti-war rally the day before. Previously, they said that at least 20,000 people would attend the rally supporting the war.
It reminds of the time that Houston held a rally to drum up support to keep the Oilers from moving to Tenn. About 10 die-hard fans attended that rally. Needless to say, the Oilers moved.
Meanwhile, the circular reasoning of the GOPocrites churns out another in a series of ironic mixed messages which reveal their true feelings about democracy and freedom.
Senator Jeff Sessions (R- Ala.) all but told the handful of zealots that those who attended the anti-war rally were "un-American."
"The group who spoke here the other day did not represent the American ideals of freedom, liberty, and spreading that around the world," the senator said. "I frankly don't know what they represent, other than blaming America first."
Juxoposed with Sessions tirade were signs that said 'arrest the traitors.' Once again, the first ammendment only means something when the GOPocrites try to push their extremist views on Americans. It is pathetic that the War Pigs view the freedom to petition the government to voice one's displeasure at the Bush administration's morally bankrupt and illegal war in Iraq as dangerous and that somehow it aids the enemy.
The Bush administration has done a magnificient job of aiding in the insurgency. while supporting the Hussein government. Consider the fact that Iraq was a nominal ally of ours during the Iran-Iraq war. Moreover, Bin Laden and the mujhadeen were supported by us as well. Add the incompetence by Wolfowitz, Bremer, et all, and that Abu Gharib thing, I doubt the fact that some terrorist is going to emboldened by 100,000 citizens protesting the war in DC.
If anything, the fact that 100K can still march (look out for Patriot II and subsequent Big Brethren tactics) in this country, is itself a triumph of democratic ideals. Apparently, the Bush Administration believes that freedom means a constitution that denies the most basic civil rights to women and, gasp!, Christians, is acceptable.
Recently, I wrote how the Republicrooks essentially invented the blame game. In Vietnam, somehow the press "lost the war." The likely culprit in Iraq is Cindy Sheehan as if somehow she is responsible for Bush's fuck-ups.
Now they will note that the lack of coverage for their lackluster rally is proof of a liberal media bias. I think 100,000 people attending an anti-war demonstration is more newsworthy than 400 Lee Greenwood loving chicken hawks. Indeed the War Pig rally is newsworthy only for its near total lack of support -- roughly 0.4 percent of the opposition.
The winds of change are blowing. Soon, when Iraq plunges into a three-way civil war (reminds me of Bosnia) the opposition will be like a category 5 hurricane. Once again, there is delicious irony at the idea that the man who campaigned in 2000 saying his environmental policy was "peaceful co-existence" with nature will soon have his predency unraveled by a natural disaster, or as his supporters usually call an "Act of God."
