According to the CBS affiliate in St. Louis, Missouri State Representative David Sater from southwest Missouri wants to make Christianity the official state religion. Here's Sater's explanation from his website:
House Concurrent Resolution (HCR 13) reflections upon the historical significance that Christianity has had in shaping our way of life, our government, and how our early leaders relied on their Christian faith in governing our first constitution. It states that the common sense that voluntary prayer in public schools and religious displays on public property are not a coalition of church and state, but rather the justified recognition of the positive role that Christianity has played in this great nation of ours, the United States of America.
The text of the resolution can be found here.
At least the Republicans are now admitting what we've known all along - they won't be happy until everyone converts to fundamentalist Christianity . Lest you believe that Sater is a lone kook, the resolution has co-sponsors, including someone named Barney Joe Fisher, and has made its way past the Rules Committee, which recommended "do pass."
Democrats should shove this down Republicans' throats and link every Republican candidate with these clowns.
