The wingnuts are up in arms over an alleged mugging and "carving" incident. The worst of the lot, Drudge, has this linked at the top of his page.
There are currently no less than two dozen stories submitted on this on Digg right now, including the intelligent "Barack Obama Carves B in Woman's Face". The comments in the stories are full of racist hate and Osama-Obama invective.
** Bury this crap on Digg (~2 dozen)!
** More buries: Search "mutilated"
** More buries: Search: "ashley todd"
I don't want to give this likely hoax any more legs by discussing it here. The best thing to do with a hoax is ignore it. The police will make the final call as to whether she's lying or not.
You know it's fishy when Michelle Malkin (of all people) questions it:
Why that McCain volunteer’s "mutilation" story smells awfully weird
She refused medical treatment after reporting the incident to police. Why on earth would she do that?
[..]
Hate crimes hoaxes — by anyone, of any political persuasion, and of any color — diminish us all.
And a cop writes:
"I’m a cop - 8th year now - and this McCain supporter attack just didn’t pass the "smell test" as soon as I read about it.
At this point, I’ll guess the shiner was inflicted either by a friend willingly as part of this hoax or a boyfriend in a domestic dispute.
The "B" is far to shallow and clean to be taken seriously. Reminds me of the stab wounds that a "hero" would get when fighting off a phantom attacker - far to superficial to have been done in what is a fairly violent encounter.
Here's a less Wingnutty debunking page, as linked in the comments:
Insanity and Politics: McCain Supporter Attacked in Pittsburgh
The robbery wasn't captured on the bank's security cameras.
An image posted in the comments below. Note that this shows a mirror image since the "B" was carved backwards:
As a commenter below states, Fox is more than willing to give this legs:
I posted this on another diary, but I feel it bears repeating, because this I feel this is the most despicable, disgusting comment to come out of this entire election -- and that's saying a lot. And it's from the VP of Fox News:
If Ms. Todd’s allegations are proven accurate, some voters may revisit their support for Senator Obama, not because they are racists (with due respect to Rep. John Murtha), but because they suddenly feel they do not know enough about the Democratic nominee.
Post is here.
Unbelievable. Just abso-friggin'-lutely unbelievable. This is how they plan to finish out the campaign, folks. And we were silly enough to think they'd go with Reverend Wright. That, compared to this, would be downright civilized.
