I just read a great comment on another website that I thought I'd share. It's a comment I found on the ChicagoTribune.com from an article about an interview with Sarah Palin. The article is largely about Palin defending her wardrobe and promising to fully fund education for kids with special needs. This area is apparently exempt from McCain's proposed spending freeze.
Anyways, in the comment section the typical back and forth breaks out between the liberals and the wingnuts over Palin, which then of course spreads to include McCain and Obama, and then naturally widens to include all points of contention between the left and the right. That's when some poor wingnut unwittingly throws out some Iraq "facts" in an attempt to make some point and he gets his ass handed to him. I think he's still trying to figure out what hit him.
Jeff the Wingnut (attempting to make some point about Iraq and Chicago politicians):
Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago...
Body count: In the last six months
292 killed (murdered) in Chicago; 221 killed in Iraq....
Jim the American Hero (smacking him down):
"Body count: In the last six months
292 killed (murdered) in Chicago; 221 killed in Iraq."
You dolt. That is NOT 221 PEOPLE killed in Iraq in the last 6 months. That is Soldiers, US soldiers. Jeeze, you people. Imagine for a second, if in Chicago, every 6 months over 200 Elite heavily armed "police" in up armored trucks with crew served weapons, were killed. The number of Iraq Police, Iraqi Army...and Iraqi civilians is much much higher.
I guess they don't count to you? Right now, there are cholera out breaks in Baghdad, and sewage running down the streets, people..in Baghdad...don't have proper drinking water or enough electricity. They live under a super police state, with Hays (Iraq name for a neighborhood) surrounded by concrete T-walls and check points, after entire areas of the city were ethnically cleansed. Millions have fled Iraq, and hundreds of thousands have died.
All the while we spend up to $3,000,0000,000 a WEEK there. All supporting a government that is run by a bunch of sectarian Islamic parties like Dawa and Council for the Islamic Revolution (Al Hakims party, that runs the police), who are corrupt beyond any belief, not only that but so buddy buddy with Iran,it ain't even funny. The Kurds are just biding their time till they break off, and the next Iraqi civil war is kindling in Mosul. The SoI, is just a missed pay check away from planting IED again.
Ya, good job! Good thing we invaded Iraq! Yippi, what a smart idea.
How do I know this? Because I'm on tour number 2. From any person who had to live though the last 6 years of Hell there, they would spit in your face. You know nothing about Chicago and less about Iraq
I just thought that was one of the more concise assessments of what's happening in Iraq that I've read recently and it's a far cry from the "we have succeeded" picture that John McCain keeps painting. No wonder the troops overwhelmingly support Obama, they see right through McCain's bullshit. It seems like all the surge did was to get the media off of Bush's ass for a couple months and allow McCain to win his nomination. The next president (Obama) is going to have some serious mess to clean up there.
Also, I really enjoyed seeing a Fox News viewer (I'd put money on the fact that "Jeff" gets his "facts" from Hannity or Limbaugh) step into an argument with someone who actually knows things and get eviscerated. The rest of the comment board is filled with people thanking Jim for his service, and offering to buy him a beer. Kudos to Jim and all our service men and women.
Update: This exchange appears to have scrolled off the ChicagoTribune message board for those of you who were hoping to read it yourself. It took place last night which is when I wrote the draft for this diary before heading to bed . But it definitely took place and the comments were copied and pasted.
