Barack is poised to win Colorado by a big margin but each vote counts in the downticket races. Let me give you Anna's case..
This year is very different than 2006. In 2006, Anna ran and 61% of the early voting in her district was Republican; this year it is 52% - that is a shift of 9%.
But in 2006, 1,3400 people who voted in the Governor's race (Bill Ritter was the D and won) that did not vote in the local race. And the numbers worked out to be about 900 people did not vote down ticket on the D side while it was about 300 people who did not vote downticket on the R side.
Understand, a big state Rep race in Colorado Springs is $25,000 and money from outside groups, House Majority, etc. - forget it. So there is no radio or tv buy.
More below:
This year we are seeing total early vote in Anna's district to have under 50% R. Please recognize that Anna got 42% of the vote with a 55.5% BR turnout in 2006.
We believe that we can win with a 49% R vote if everyone votes downticket. We are afraid the margin if we lose will be due to undervote. I expect the winning margin in a 38,000 voter district to be under 300 votes. So, for the sake of all the down tickets - especially in those red to blue states - please ask for Obama voters to vote down the ticket.
