So we noticed a strange thing happening with our 10 year old Lhasa Apso, Bandit (named for Johnny Quest's dog). The first time we noticed it was while watching the Republican convention.
McSame was giving his speech, and we were trying not to get sick. Bandit had been acting moody during the whole thing, a fact we attributed to our own gross-out vibes. When McLame was finishing up his speech, Bandit was sitting in front of the TV growling. Not loud, not aggressive, but steady. I know, I know, sounds like a bunch of hooey. We didn't pay much attention to it as our own ears were bleeding.
We watched the post convention coverage for a while, then my husband noticed Bandit acting strangely again. The talking heads were showing a clip of Palin, and Bandit was again growling at the TV. Again strange, but not strange enough to get our full attention.
Over the next few weeks, we started to notice it more and more. When Palin or McQuakers was on the TV, Bandit was upset. He'd growl. He'd pace. Once in a while, he'd bark. And even stranger, whenever Obama was on TV, Bandit was fine - he paid no attention to the TV at all.
So we decided to try an experiment last night. Check out the results.
Can you believe it? Bandit seems to get almost physically ill when accused of loving Republicans! We did not train him to do this - at ten years old, we can't really teach him to do anything - he's as set in his ways as...well, McCain (sorry, Bandit!).
I'm not offering any explanations for this - I'm not sure what to think, other than a Jim Carrey line from Ace Ventura, Pet Detective, that comes to mind:
"It's true! Dogs can sense evil!"
