As Kos has said, leave it on the road, give everything you've got. So, here's a tip from Cool Hand Luke.
When I was younger, my Dad made a point of helping me understand the importance of morality-tale movies. Paul Newman's winning performance in "Cool Hand Luke" was chief among them.
It's beautiful, to me, how this scene of the chain-gang, prison characters tar-papering the road in many ways embraces the hope of Obama's campaign.
"Smile, spit, or swallow."
It's hope they're feeling, beating the system, change ...
Obama's a world-shaker, for sure. And he's a "beautiful thing."
And many profound thanks to Mr. Newman for the examples he set about how to lead a better life. He used to visit us in Wisconsin at Elkhart Lake for the races at Road America. Man, was he somethin' for us small town people to see.
