I've seen this as a joke, and as a protest sign against Prop 8, but I'm beginning to think this is a good idea.
Fellow Californians, I think it is time for a Mind Your Own Damn Business Amendment.
I will further elaborate below the fold.
I intend to write into the California State Constitution language that will strengthen the right to privacy and, by default, assume that whatever consenting adults do in their private lives is none of the states' business and none of ours, either.
I'm not entirely sure how to phrase it - I think that it should all hang on consent and privacy.
Maybe the best way to instruct our fellow Californians in the lost art of minding one's own business is to set limits in the Legislature and initiative process - if a law or initiative deals with the private behavior of two consenting adults, then laws restricting that behavior require a two-thirds supermajority to pass. If the behavior is currently legal or an accepted civil right, the majority is raised to three-quarters.
I know that I am not often serious here. I am serious about this.
I am also not a lawyer or a legislator, and I'd like to make this as bulletproof as possible.
And yes, this is the Moody Loner response to Prop. 8.
Please leave feedback and suggestions below. This is currently the bare bones while I look at the initiative process. If this is something that can be done, then we can talk organization and signatures.
