I am the most 'blessed' woman in the world. I have great children. They are liberal. Now all you Kossacks should not get too excited. My kids are also Christians. As am I. That might put off some who are atheists. I've been commenting for months and I've seen some of the comments about Christianity. Don't be too hard on me!
I have these liberal adult kids. I am their Facebook friend. And I am the friend of some of their friends. The ones who remember me from weddings or other events. Most of them are Christians.
Last night, I was blown away by one of my son's friend's postings.
My son's friend posted a denouncement of a recent letter put out by James Dobson. I hadn't seen this letter so I dug deeper and learned about what is being circulated to Christians by Dobson's hate machine. My son's friend states that he 'has no intention of voting for Obama' but he finds the recent letter to be "one that should have never been written".
My son and daughter would concur that this letter should not have been written. But they not only intend to vote for Obama, they have been actively campaigning for him. There has been movement in a lot of Christian churches away from preaching the gospel of Dobson. My son and daughter are two of the reasons why some Christian churches are now steering clear of telling people who to vote for.
Back to the letter. The author of the letter is not identified as Dobson --but rather just as 'A Christian from 2012'. But the letter originates from Dobson's organization. James Dobson is the founder of Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council. His radio spots about raising children are heard all over the country. Lately, he has morphed into one of the more extreme (and out of touch) spokespersons for the religious 'wrong'.
His letter can be viewed at this link:

If the link doesn't work, you can go to their website: Citizenlink.com and find the article titled, " A Chilling Look at an Obama Presidency".
Citizenlink is the 'action' website for Focus on the Family.
The letter is weirdly dated as October 22, 2012. It is a total of 15 pages when printed out. This is one to read, 'my friends'. I can't print out the whole 15 pages here. You all are quite capable of reading it on your own. I can, however, provide you with a summary of some of the scenarios that this letter presents as being the direct result of an Obama presidency. This first summary is per my son's friend. (I'm not naming him, lest he be called forth by the Palin-Bachmann team during the American Inquisition--should they steal the next election. -- I am quite capable of hyperbole as is Dobson!) Here is what Dobson predicts as being the situation in 2012:
- The Supreme court leans liberal, 6 to 3.
- Terrorist attacks have occurred in 4 US cities.
- Christian doctors, nurses, counselors, and teachers have either been fired or quit.
- Iran perpetrated a nuclear attack on Israel, drastically reducing the size of its borders.
- Pornography is freely displayed.
- Inner city violent crime has dramatically increased due to gun control.
- Russia has occupied 4 additional countries.
- Gas tops $7 a gallon.
- Euthanasia becomes commonplace.
- Blackouts occur throughout the country.
- Homosexual marriage becomes law in all 50 states.
- Campus ministries, Christian adoption agencies and Christian schools nearly cease to exist.
- Home school families emigrate to Australia and New Zealand by the thousands.
- Bush officials are jailed and bankrupt.
- Taliban-like oppression overtakes Iraq and death of American sympathizers reaches millions.
- Homosexuals are given a bonus to enlist in the military.
A number of the items above are quite horrible. Others are actually appealing. Here are a few more(summarized by me):
- The Boy Scouts no longer exist
- Compulsory training in various gender identities starting in grade 1
- Churches are forced to provide their buildings for same-sex weddings
- Church Social Workers and Counselors are forced to provide counseling to same sex couples
- Doctors are forced to provide artificial insemination for lesbians
- The Bible cannot be preached on the airwaves because it might be offensive to homosexuals
- Tax-exempt status of churches is revoked if they refuse to hire homosexuals who apply for staff positions
- All wire-tapping is ceased unless a warrant is first obtained and all terrorists are given full trials in the US court system.... terrorists have struck again.
- As Vice President Joe Biden had predicted on Oct. 20, 2008, some hostile foreign countries "tested" President Obama in his first few months in office. The first test came from Russia.
- The new Congress under President Obama passed a nationalized "single provider" health care system, in which the US government is the provider of all health care in the United States...The waiting list for ovarian cancer is 2 years...only a small number of MRIs are performed..almost never authorized.
- Because medical resources must be rationed carefully... people older than 80 have essentially no access to hospitals or surgical procedures. Their "duty" is increasingly thought to be to go home to die.
This letter by Dobson won't change any minds in right-wingy Palinland. But this letter is not just directed to the chior. It is directed to any Christian thinking about voting for Obama. It's intent is to persuade them to vote against Obama (McCain's name is never mentioned). The letter goes on to say:
Christians share a lot of the blame. In 2008, many evangelicals thought Senator Obama was an opportunity for a "change" and they voted for him. They did not realize Obama's far-Left agenda would take away many of our freedoms, perhaps permanently... (Obama) seemed to be moving to the center in his speeches, moving away from his far-Left record. No one thought he would enact such a far-Left, extreme liberal agenda. Christians didn't take time to find out who Barack Obama was when they voted for him. Why did they risk our nation's future on him? It was a mistake that changed the course of history.
There are many Followers of Christ who do not buy into this garbage. There are those who are tolerant and liberal because it seems to be so much more akin to what Jesus taught.
After the election, the war of words won't end. We'll have to deal with this kind of brainbleaching (my term) for many years. Its best to know what is circulating, so it can be addressed. Liberal Christians will have to carry the torch of a rational dialogue related to separation of church and state and the influence of faith on public policy.
I welcome comments from all. Persons of all faiths and no faith. This is my first diary -- on a subject that is not my area of expertise. Thought I would diary about health care or McCain's cognitive problems first. Since I stumbled upon this, I felt obliged to share it. I haven't found a similar diary on the subject of this letter. Thanks for reading.
