Today's lines of voters are the LONGEST YET! After more than a month of early voting and advance voting (which I described here), Georgians are still flocking to the polls and numbers keep getting BIGGER!
The AJC is reporting that today's turnout is even bigger than it has been previously.
More below the fold, along with a pitch for Jim Martin, the Democrat who will send Saxby Chambliss packing and put us over 60 in the US Senate!
As of 9:40 this morning, waits are estimated over 3 hours at many locations throughout Metro Atlanta. If you're in the area and want to vote today, you can check locations and wait times here.
NOTE THAT GEORGIA HAS NO EARLY VOTING THIS WEEKEND OR ON MONDAY! So if you haven't voted yet, DO IT NOW! Don't wait until Tuesday!
Incredible numbers of people are turning out, with thousands reported this morning in line before the polls even opened at 7. Here are some pictures from the AJC from yesterday's day of voting.
As I discussed here earlier in the week, the African American turnout is not only impressive, it's holding up well. Others have had some great analysis of this, and if you're out there please chime in.
As of last night, 1.77 million Georgians have cast their vote. So we are now at a 35% turnout.
African American turnout has dipped ever so slightly over the last 48 hours, and currently stands at 34.97% (down from 35.4). This is to be expected, but several people have calculated that if AA turnout holds out above 30%, Obama wins Georgia.
Now I know that Nate Silver over at 538 has got Georgia essentially as a long-shot for Jim Martin to oust Saxby Chambliss for US Senate. But if we can push just a little harder the next few days to keep turnout high, we can do this!
The problem is, just like he did against Max Cleland, Saxby Chambliss has launched a barrage of lies and scumbag attacks. Jimmy Martin is a wholesome family man who served his country with honor in Vietnam, and is ready to stand up for regular folks in Georgia and around the country.
Martin hasn't gotten the national support he deserves. It's starting to come in now, with some national attention, and a recent visit by Bill Clinton. But if he fights back on the air NOW, we can push both him and Barack over the top on Tuesday.
Everyone has given so much of their time and money - but if you're going to make a difference financially, TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO DO IT!. If you can scrounge up just a couple more bucks, please send it to Jim Martin to help get him into the US Senate!
DONATE TO MARTIN FOR US SENATE
