I'll conclude this diary with a mini personal dilemma. But first, I'd like to talk a bit about the IL-18 US House race for Ray LaHood's seat.
Ray LaHood is your typical "moderate" Illinois Republican. He voted for the Freedom to Read act and against the first Bush Tax cut and for the bail-out plan.
On the other hand, he is anti-choice, pro Iraq War and he chaired the House Impeachment Proceedings against President Clinton.
More below the fold
Aaron Schock is the up can coming local Republican star. He is handsome, telegenic and, though in his 20's, managed to unseat a Democrat in the IL-92nd State House, win reelection and do this in a district that when overwhelmingly for John Kerry in 2004.
He beat two opponents in the Republican Primary.
The Democratic candidate dropped out and was replaced in early March by Colleen Callahan: a minor media personality who has agricultural experience. In terms of money, this is no contest; Callahan is badly underfunded.
Some time ago, The Decider flew into Peoria to host a RNC fundraiser to help Aaron Schock; it was 500 dollars a plate. Callahan held a 15 dollar a plate fish fry, which I attended.

It was a success; the lines went out of the basement and out of the door.
People are working for her; one local Democrat describes her door to door canvass here:

And though things look grim, Callahan is fighting back. She released these internet ads:
I see this as a "last act of defiance" type of thing.
Personal Dilemma
Some time ago, we were looking for someone to replace the kid who did our yard work (I hate that stuff). We were told that one of our neighbors is a single mom who both likes yard work and needs the money.
So I hired her and she has done a good job.
But now she has a McCain-Palin sign in her yard.
So, should I fire her not hire her and hire someone else? She obviously can't need the money that badly.
